Student-Athlete Employment: Responsibility of the Employer
Student-athletes may work during the academic year and during vacation periods. However, each student-athlete is limited on his/her earnings during the academic year (not during vacation periods) depending on his/her athletic scholarship amount. The NCAA mandates that all earnings by the student-athlete must be documented by the UNC Department of Athletics. In order to comply with the NCAA rules, the Department of Athletics needs cooperation from each employer of a student-athlete. Without the proper documentation, a student-athlete may become ineligible to participate and compete for UNC.
Please review the procedures for student-athlete employment:
Each student-athlete must receive prior permission from the Department of Athletics to work during the academic year (not including summer school sessions).
Each student-athlete must complete and sign the UNC Student-Athlete Employment Written Statement. The Compliance Office and UNC Financial Aid Director must also sign the statement.
The student-athlete is approved for employment by the Compliance Office
At the end of each academic semester, the Compliance Office sends an Earnings Report form to each employer. The form must be completed and returned to the Department of Athletics for the employment records. If the form is not returned, it could cost the student-athlete his/hereligibility to compete.
