Jay Walsh is in his first year as the head men's tennis coach at Northern Colorado. Walsh was hired at Northern Colorado in September 2004 and has worked to bring the men's team to the Division I level.
Thru an almost complete D-I schedule to higher training and conditioning standards, as well as technical improvement commitments, the men's team continues to improve and prepare for competition at the Division I level.
Walsh is a native of Redding, Calif., and while growing up he was a top ranked junior player in northern California.
After high school, Walsh went on to play professional tournaments before taking a position at Van Der Meer Tennis Academy. At Van Der Meer he trained under world class coaches and coached top ranked junior players.
Walsh left Van Der Meer at the age of 24 to become the youngest Division I Head Coach in the country at Virginia Military Institute (VMI). While at VMI he led a team that was winless in three years to a seven-win season before the university eliminated their golf and tennis programs.
In March 2003, Jay started his own tennis club management company at the age of 25. His company is located in the south Denver-metro area and services over 600 people.
